this is the final diary entry before i print out and wipe of this blog and start building my professional one base on my freelance work
on the plus side i pick up to website commissions on the minus side i got a shitty mark that is whole undeserved for my doritos project.
mac gone to London with my work cant get hold of her showed what i had argued my case but for what worked so hard these last two years for nothing even though i got 75 %
for the grazia project. in the time since ive done the grazia ive also done a logo design for unearthed sport management and the book cover but it counts for nothing as they don't get marked. I've been fuck royally but that just how it goes i suppose. Im to tied to kick up a fuss every time i try i just think it point less and most of this year has been leading up to this shitty mark still i've learnt loads this year who noes might not get a job in what a want but a less i know i can do it for myself i just need to have a break from leaving on 20 pound a week and working 7

review doctor who series 4
Everyone in england has a doctor,Whether they watched the show or not. Its determined by the age you are when watching doctor who could still scare you enough to have night mares. For me it Sylvester McCoy, with his linen jacket and and silly cane. But with the new version or doctor who in prime time slots on saturday not week night this new version of doctor who set out to grab the attention of all and break new ground for bbc scifi. Plus on the up side for the bbc scifi fans love a bit of merchandising. with the 4 series however we are in tyhe realms of the duff years for a scifi show. when it runs out of ideas when it bring back the same baddie that one two meny time.
but for doctor who there biggest problem for me is catherine tate , by bring a name into the new show for the first time they have done something different. firstly they made the side kick more of an equal and less I candy for the dads who should know better. secondly cathrine brings a more comic turn to the role role of assistant. But the problem is there relay on cathrine as a comic actress to much it means that everything she on screen year expecting her to start saying am i bored or talking tlike the nan.
in order to maintain the show qualities and not have Cathrine in the show as a gimmick it need to be pushed in to darker realms to balance the lightness of the new banter between the two main characters. Yes there have been strong emotional episodes and yes the writers have used her a as a tool for question the doctor but it still to fleeting to be meaning full. Its the writing that has to change this season not doctor or his assistant.

Dear reader contextual studies is done and in (happy days are here again even better we shot are ad. to be honest working with someone else has been a bit of a release it been nice to bounce of someone and escape from my own head for once. realy enjoyed working with actor and styling my biggest head ache been doing the visual at the end but that just cause I'm trying to get it right stright away and taken on Joeann's obsession with type and kerning

10 years of Mathew Williamson
Design museum and the urbis gallery
I went to see this exhibition twice once in London the second time when I came to Manchester
Matthew Williamson is design no for his part dress and use of neon and bold colours. But to see how his work has grown creatively developing first in the use of his better and more interesting pattern cutting. To secondly moving away from being a design and become a complete fashion house and brand and see how he tackles introducing basic piece and accessories and how the change under influence of the brands look feel and message.
There is differently a feeling of coming of age in the middle of the exhibition and you can see how the move to show in New York rather then London affected his choice of prints. They become more geometrical with flash of seventy disco ketch. This is in contrast to the every camp and pastiche Indian and prints with ultra beading mixed in with 1950’s northern wallpaper from the early collection which reference bollywood and his own up bringing in Manchester.

The overall feeling of the exhibition is greatly effected by the venue that its in

It felt as if the work was fight against the space and your eyes where be bombarded by riot of colour from the print and fabric the use of the artificially light made the print panels striking and neon but the clothes dull. Even the clothing on catwalk still looked lifeless

In Manchester the open fell gave the overall exhibition a life that was not apparent in London . the clothing pick up the natural light and with the setting of urbis itself u feel the weight of beading and detail in the cloth.

Went to this with a friend who wanted to see Mathew Williamson exhibit this was separated in to four rooms my favourite was the more commercial stuff never realise how much my graphic work is influence by the styling and characters from manga. The adult section was a little bit unnecessary but I guess you couldn’t leave it out . I watched akira when I was a kid so I know some manga is just sick porn. I differently have a preference for the more cute style then the action hero styles I think this lock a bit inferior to traditional American drawn comics.
But there is something a bit sinister about the preoccupation with really young characters, school girls in the uniform with tiny little skirt. Also it seams that that the proportion of the manga figure seam to be size zero style skinny wathe as to the big breasted Barbie style of western comics

been having nightmare of working in aldo for the rest of my life . on the whole life its a bit crap really tied and never got to learn quark before we broke up. Review of time code

I had never seen time code even though it cam out in 1999 its one of the though movies that always seem to get talk about but I managed to miss. 4 screen view, handel digital camara , documentary styling . watching this in hindsight of shows such as 24 and arrested development it seam to me that this film is an exercises in what can be a achieved but note necessarily a success in it self. Starting out as four separate stories shows in four different screen the film build bridge between each screen in plot that use modem technology in society such as phone and cars to move the plot when direct and act should. The film suffers from two big flaws the lack of proper direction and the ability of the ensemble cast. There is a sense of filling the time between cutting to different screens, supporting act with out the ability to hold the attention of the viewer fill the screen to often babbling about nothing with out delivering the comedy of the situation. The stars or big names in this movie each hold there own because we trust them as view but also because they have ability to hold the screen with the exception of saffron borrows who is cold and lifeless as always and seams to freezer all humanity out of her story line even in scene when the plot demands you feel for her you just cant. Scene in which the director use his own story line to justify the films structure a valid s satire but is losted in the fact that this movie should have been scripted not improvised by using the structure of technology and not have a back bone to the story the screen is filled with empty acting on four screen instead of four and though although im grateful to this movie for proving what is technically and stylistically possible. I feel it ultimately fails because at no point are we given a story that could not have been better using traditional structures of a 2 way split screen.

Dear Reader,
Its been a couple of weeks since my last blog have you missed me. Anyway this week is send it all off week ycn and Danaad deadlines next week. so I been busy putting stuff online and print of so i can cut and mount . My Grazia magazine advert is in flux keeping thinking of new idea it means I have little time to redo and i must make sure that everything is done correctly first time round. I'm going to take picture of the fashion items at work so i can have quality picture to blue screen also need to print labels in small for the inside of shoes.

This is my first time going to a pop concert up until recently I would have only gone to see R&B artist. But the reason why I wanted to see Gwen was that she is such a visual artist. She’s one of the celebrities that seams to be never of duty always maintain here celebrity look even when she’s walking about with the kids. Here use of different culture and the ways she reinterprets musical genre has lead out of pop and ska and funk and rap to a form of fusion with I feel is the future of Morden R&B pop.
Visual the show was stunning set piece reference to the video detailing and dance. There a sense of communities you get when you a concert that u don’t get watching a video. Vocally she sound like the record which is more then I expected she didn’t dance much herself but as a front women in a band she had her own sage presence and new how to control the crowd.

But the best point for me was the video graphic and use of film normally in a R&B concert large screens are for people in the back to see artist but qwen use then to set up mode changing some introducing video and multimedia element that had epic scope

the week of strange

Dear reader, it been a very busy week this week got side tracked a little with producing my own branding and self promitional idea for a open day meet thing . I had soom good response and feed back off it. So now im focusing on two thing finish the grazia project and taking my self promotion idea online in a useful and meaning fully why.

once i have theses i can push forward with userability and funiction on my site and have a grater understanding of how i want it to navigate.
I am going to have to make a trip to london to visit people and get example of work and items for photo shoot was hoping to do it over easter to give me 6 weeks to finish off everything

take heart in the small things

Dear reader, half terms is over and time for me to start on my new project im currently wirting the brief for my personal project with is going to be a media rich online fashion magazine and e commerce site. I am also planning on doing another competition brief. I want to see if i like doing copy as much as i did on the nude brief im going to do the grzia brief for the dand awards because i can include it in my as a section in my main project and it continues my overall arch of my portfolio for this year.
kind of filled with joy a the moment after spending 3 hours trying to make my baby website menu move in the way i want its all system go at the moment im got that pages in order and my time line correct so tonight im going to add my script to my buttons AND TEST RUN IT before loading it on the serve tomorrow in time for the competition. im really glad i decide to build the site in flash its given grate joy to see the site working in the way i imaged it and not cut up like it would have been in dream weaver. also it give me reason to practice using action script

D&AD Exhibition: The Best Design and Advertising in the World

I recently revisited this exhibition because of the change in focus of my work and projects over the past through month. based on the second level of urbis this exhibition filled the cramped and wired shaped building with viberent colour. The thing about adverts is the unless there on the train or tube i don't really look at them with more then a glance. There met to give u instant visual information as such I got the feeling of being bombered with different messages while walking through the exhibition. when u have the vision of one wart or design set out you get to flow through the exhibition picking out emotional notes from each piece.
with this exhibition what stand out for me was the use of symbolism and and the mix between sub-cultures, high culture and low culture to give unique selling point and to aid in branding
my favorite piece from the show where the video based advert . seeing them at that scale with was large then a normal Ev but smaller then cinema gave them a different prospective made them work much better then some of the video art id seen in that last two year. the stand out piece though was the video for knarles Barcley i never really seen the video full length but the used of symbol and smoothness of animation are amazing.

So at the beginner of the year before lesson started and i got bogged down at work we went to the Tate Liverpool which for the first time was holding the turner prize. My be it me maybe I have grown cold to new art forms or home sick for London. either way i Found this year competition to be redundant and lifeless with each room filled with meaning less piece that didn't seam to have a any heart or joy or warmth. Collectively they left me feeling uneasy not for the subject matter but for the lack of vision displayed in the piece by the artist. There seam to be no skill other then producing something in a particular media such as painting or film. but shouldn't good art escape it own media and become something stronger the the images on the screen or canvase. I have know answer as to why i hated the overall exhibitions even though i was impressed with individual technical skills. i guess i have just seen but more important felt better from art exhibition and the turner prize itself and im not a fan of art that is so self aware

Dear reader, Deadline tomorrow so you know what that means up all night typing out the changes to contextual studies. Also know as subject we do because we have to. On the other hand this year it has help me think about what direction im going to take . so its been worth it

Zaha Hadid at the design mesum london

This is first exbixtion I have seen out side of Manchester since the turner exhibition in Liverpool. I saw an interview with here on a channel 4. Program a view years a ago didn’t realy pay it any attion. Showing a wide range of models, sculptures and prints. Her work looked like a combination of electric circuits, insect sturces and play dough . At times the building function shone thought with levels of details that are almost from a sci film. Here building seam to be barren of culture and placer simply existing within there own context and changelle all that sorrouned them. loved it

Dear reader my dealine is fast approaching and as such i will be adding my 5 reviews for this term to my blog. this is just a quick update on the past week and my progress cause the tennis is on go songa. mY website for rosie is constructed and the visual for my roses project is completed . I finally relised the rerason why it took so long for me to get the pages right because went to fast into illustrator. Normally i would work everythingout on paper first ad scan it in and work from the plan as a basic layout. However the time it taken me to get to the final layouyt have not been wasted i am working alot quick in illustrator and have bulit up and develop my use of the program learn new ways of doing things, my basic speed on the program and new skills.

im going to start adding work from my sketch boock from next week so you be able to see my pain in it full glory.
i have also started drawing again and developing my own brand called spray paint jesus. in order to complete the terms work by thursday i have to

Dear reader,
So i have lived through the mess of Xmas and the full terror that is new year. been to Budapest and back again. now it time to face the full horror of my deadline after the last crit i have three piece of work to hand in on the 31st over the term i have been working on 5 but two of them will not be completed in time due to the client input or lack there off . however I have my two competition piece and the website for Roseanna to hand in. I have decide to cut my hours at work for next couple of weeks in the hope that this will give me more time to focus on my work . I finding that I'm two tiered to focus on work when not at uni which is wasting time .

once again i been looking a my type I'm getting better at using and choosing type and finding balance its much easier to view type on paper then on screen. And I'm finding it easier to control using illustrator functions . apparently i have quite good copy for this project . I never really trust words in any form probably cause my spilling crap but this project has come to me and felt easier but then so has the design for Rosie . I guess it taken me a while to get my own visual judgement working as well again.
Glad i finished mike work before the break ill have to out that on the back burner till the end of the 31st unless i go in next week and get told they need it for the assessment for mmu.
